I thought it best to give an update on the release of Patrick McKenzie The Decca Years.
So, my dad casually mentioned this, "Son, you'd best get clearance from Decca on Grandad's recordings". Well, it hadn't even occurred to us that we would need clearance from a defunct record label. But, as it turns out, Decca Records is still alive and kicking as they were apparently absorbed by the Universal Music Group. And fortunately dad had a direct line to them (Decca) so we sent off a letter explaining what it was we were going to do with these old recordings. After several email exchanges and much clarification on our part, it seems like we are in the clear (hopefully). We had to forward all recordings to them for review and wait to hear back for the grand OK. All of Patrick's demo's are owned by Patrick, but many of the recordings from various groups that recorded his songs- be they famous or not, well, those recordings are technically owned by Decca....still, to this day. We've received clearance for all but two. Still waiting on that, but we feel confident they will be cleared. Meanwhile, Orange Records is going through some major changes at the exact same time that we are dealing with our problems. They will be phasing out their Bandcamp presence and moving more into the digital realm with Spotify, iTunes and other digital distribution platforms. This change up does present a slight inconvenience for us as we had planned on releasing Patrick's album exclusively to their Bandcamp site. And so it appears that we will be selling the record on this site. But that also allows us the option to sell it both digitally and on CD, much like the old days when we would sometimes use Kunaki for CD pressings. I can't give an exact date as to when the record will be released, but I would think no late than mid October.. Once we get full clearance on all songs (20, I think), then I will post the song list and give a definite release date. Cheers all, KM Update 10/25/25 Unfortunately, too many unresolved issues related to clearance and release of Patrick's album have forced us to put this record on hold indefinitely. The powers that be simply do not want this album out there for reasons that might be obvious to some of you paying attention. Its just how the system works I reckon. Sometimes the truth is squashed before it can be set free : (
